INTRODUCTION:
Pull the Trigger Hitter is a self-training stationary hitting device, a specially designed and engineered spinner that can be mounted by using our handy 3-Way Receiver; attach it to an existing pole or post, insert it into an automotive receiver hitch, or connect it to a portable hitting station.
Its purpose is to train the batter to: 1 - direct his swing (go with the pitch and hit to all fields), 2 - develop and enhance rotational hitting principles for many different swing planes, and 3 - work on committing his swing at the right time (pulling the trigger). The batter should 'effectively' lead with his hands and swing through the plane of the spinner, also perpendicular to the path of the target, whose angle presentation determines yet another plane for the bat to pass through. For a very interesting explanation of "rotational hitting" techniques, see http://mikeepsteinhitting.com/ or http://chrisoleary.com/).
METHOD ONE:
The batter taps the spinner forward to initiate the action. As it slows, the spinner will begin to oscillate, bringing a chosen ball into hitting position near the top of its circular path.
The 'outside' balls (red or white) will come near the 12 o'clock position and assimilate a fastball presentation.
The 'middle' ball (yellow) will assimilate a curve-ball or off-speed pitch, approaching equilibrium (hitting position), near the 10 o'clock position (for lefties) or the 2 o'clock position (for righties).
The batter should pick a ball to hit and wait until it gets close to stopping or changing direction, then pull the trigger, starting and committing his bat swing. To do so at the right time and swing through the spinner's plane will help develop Timing, Direction, and Purpose!
The swiftly spinning spinner will eventually slow and begin to oscillate again, where the whole process continues.
The batter should periodically use a different stance (open, straight, and closed), to drill on "directional hitting", hitting to all fields. He should focus on keeping the head still and the body under control while swinging through the target. It is a good practice to freeze after the swing, to analyze and check for proper balance and stability.
It is paramount that the batter focus on seeing and timing the ball target and to accurately put the fat part of the bat on it. He needs to "go with the pitch", drive the ball in the proper direction, and swing through the plane of the ball with proper follow through and extension. He becomes a HITTER with power!
F.Y.I.
The 'further' ball is the easiest to time and succeed at. The 'nearest' ball is a little more challenging, and the middle target really does a wonderful job for those off-speed pitches.
With a variety of targets, different swing planes, and the changing heights and batter orientations, it instills a very comprehensive system for batter improvement. Plus,. . . it's continually challenging and fun! 10 to 15 minutes per session would suffice, but batters will probably want more.
METHOD TWO:
The batter spins the spinner backwards, chooses a ball to hit, hits the ball 'on the run', that is, as it slows down, but not to the point where it rocks back and forth(oscillates). This drill is more challenging, but will likely increase the batter's skill and satisfaction.
For a demonstration of these drills (methods) and other additional ones, please refer to the DRILLS page on this website.
Have you ever heard of the expressions?
* Don't try to pull every pitch!
* Go with the pitch!
* Stop pulling you head out!
With the advent of Pull the Trigger Hitter, we wish to promote a most basic and important fundamental in hitting: KEEPING THE HEAD DOWN (STILL) WHEN YOU SWING! This device is also a resistance trainer and will aid in applying tilt, tuck, and torque rotational hitting principles to your swing.
Give it a try, see how it feels, and witness the improvement! Thank you for your attention and have fun with a successful baseball season!
